Signs You Need Professional Drain Cleaning

Drain is completely backed up or overflowing
Water drains slowly
Slow drain that will not clear with a plunger
Bad smell coming from a drain
Standing water in the sink or tub
Same drains keep clogging
If more than one drain is slow at the same time, the problem is usually a trunk line or main sewer line, not just one fixture. Hair, grease, soap, and food buildup are common causes, and in older homes cast iron pipes rust and narrow until they clog. Store-bought chemical cleaners can burn a narrow channel, corrode the pipe, and let the blockage grow back thicker. If clogs keep coming back, it’s time for professional equipment, not another bottle of Drano.
30-Day Clog-Free Guarantee

Here is how it works:
We camera your drain line before and after every cleaning if possible. When the pipe is in good condition and the blockage is a simple clog, the guarantee applies automatically. If the camera shows damage, root intrusion through broken joints, or a sag that will keep collecting solids, we explain it upfront so you can choose between a temporary cleaning and a permanent repair.
Less risk. More peace of mind. No surprises after we leave.

What We Pull Out of Drains

Food Waste Buildup
This kitchen drain had been “cleaned” many times with hydro jetting and cable machines, but it kept clogging because the pipe was installed flowing uphill.

Hair Clog
Hair, soap residue, and small objects tangle together just below the drain cover. This mass was pulled from a bathtub drain in one piece with a cable snake.

Waste Compaction
This kitchen drain pipe was completely packed with hardened grease and food waste due to being installed incorrectly. Pipe repair is often the only solution.

Cast Iron Scale
Years of corrosion and hard mineral deposits narrow the inside of cast iron drain pipes. This pipe had less than a quarter of its original opening left.
How to Unclog a Drain

Plunger
Boiling Water
Baking Soda & Vinegar
Clean the P-Trap
Never Pour Chemical Drain Cleaner
- Can corrode pipes from the inside, especially older cast iron
- Often burns a small channel only through the top of the clog
- May push the clog deeper in the line where it hardens
- Can trap heat up to 200 degrees inside the pipe
- Creates a hazard for any plumber who works on the line later

Drain Cleaning Questions Kansas City Homeowners Ask
How much does professional drain cleaning cost?
For a typical residential drain cleaning visit, most jobs fall between $199 and $399 for the actual cleaning. That range depends on the type of drain, how severe the blockage is, and how easy the line is to access.
Some companies advertise very low “specials” that are below what it actually costs to do the work. They often make up the difference by changing the price once they arrive and using high pressure sales to add services you may not need. Our pricing is set as a healthy, fair number for a thorough drain cleaning service, without bait and switch tactics or pressure to buy more than you need.
We charge an 89 dollar dispatch fee to send a technician to your home, diagnose the clog, and explain your options. If you choose to have us perform the drain cleaning, that dispatch fee is absorbed into the job so you are not paying it on top of the cleaning price. You will see the full price before any work begins so you can decide what is right for your home and budget.
On healthy pipes, we also include a 30 day clog free guarantee from the date of the initial visit. If the same drain backs up again within 30 days under normal use, we will return to re-clear it at no additional cleaning charge.
Do I need a plumber or can I clean a clogged drain myself?
Simple clogs caused by hair or minor buildup can sometimes be cleared at home. A plunger, boiling water, baking soda and vinegar, or cleaning the P trap under the sink are all safe methods to try first.
If the drain still does not clear after these steps, keeps clogging again quickly, or if you see slow drains throughout the home or any sewage backup, it is time to call a licensed plumber who has specialized tools and can diagnose deeper issues.
You can scroll up to the “How to Unclog a Drain” section on this page for step by step instructions and safety tips before you decide.
Why is my bathtub or lavatory drain not draining at all?
Bathtub and bathroom drains often clog because of hair, soap scum, and personal care products accumulating in the drain and P trap. For most shallow hair clogs, a small plastic hair pulling tool from a home store, such as a short reach strip with teeth, can be very effective. We recommend that every home have one and that homeowners know how to use it to clear easy clogs that do not require a plumber visit.
If water still will not go down after using a hair pulling tool, or you notice gurgling, odors, or slow drains in other parts of the home, the blockage may be deeper in the branch line and needs professional clearing.
What should I do if my drain is backing up or overflowing?
Stop running water to that fixture and any nearby fixtures, and avoid using toilets or appliances that drain into the same line. Clean up standing water if it is safe to do so, keep children and pets away, and call for same-day drain cleaning so the blockage can be cleared quickly.
How often should I schedule drain cleaning for my home?
Drains are designed and installed so they carry water away without backing up. If a drain is clogging often, that is usually a sign something is wrong with the way the line is built or has been damaged, and it may need a physical repair, not just another cleaning.
We do not recommend routine drain cleaning as a normal scheduled maintenance item for healthy plumbing. Most homeowners call us when they notice recurring slow drains, after moving into an older home, or when a backup shows that something in the drain line needs to be found and fixed.
Backups can be more than a nuisance. Standing water and sewage can be a health hazard and can damage flooring, walls, and personal property. Sewage waste in particular can require major home remediation for any surfaces it touches. Most people do not want to risk those costs when the solution may be just a simple repair to the drain line.
If you are seeing the same drain clog again and again, our technicians can camera the line if possible, clear the blockage, and help you decide whether the drain itself needs to be repaired or replaced so it can work the way it was originally engineered to.
Can hydro jetting damage my drain pipes
Hydro jetting is generally safe for pipes in good condition when performed by trained technicians. Before jetting, we recommend a camera inspection to check for cracks or weak spots. If the pipe cannot handle jetting, we use a snake or recommend replacement instead.
Do you offer a guarantee on drain cleaning?
Yes. On healthy drain lines, every standard drain cleaning visit includes a 30-Day Clog-Free Guarantee from the date of the initial visit.
If the same drain backs up again within 30 days under normal use, we will return to re-clear that line at no additional cleaning charge. You do not pay another dispatch fee or a second cleaning price for the same drain in that 30 day window.
We offer this guarantee so you have added confidence that the clog has been properly taken care of and that we stand behind the work we do in your home.
