How Our Sewer Inspection Works

Camera inspection

We run a camera through your sewer line so you can see exactly what is happening inside the pipe. Then we mark the problem spot above ground so you know right where it is.

Options explained

We watch the screen with you and point out what the camera finds, such as roots, cracks, or a low spot. Then we explain the repair options and the flat rate price for each one.

We complete the repair

Our crew completes the repair you approved. We run the camera again to confirm the line is clear, clean up, and do not close the job until it passes the required city inspection.

Tree-Root Intrusions

Kansas City soil pulls roots right into old sewer joints. Our camera shows exactly where the roots are so we can clear them out and repair the pipe at the right spot.

Cracked or Collapsed Pipes

Shifting soil, age, and heavy traffic overhead can crack or crush sewer lines. The camera shows the exact break so we can price the right repair instead of guessing.

Bellied Lines

A low spot in the sewer line lets waste and water sit in the pipe and causes repeat backups in the same drain. The camera shows how severe the belly is so you know whether it can be managed or if that section needs to be replaced.

Blockages

Grease, wipes, and debris can choke your sewer until nothing moves. Camera inspection shows what is blocking the line and the best way to clear it.

“Main sewer pipe was blocked by tree roots in two places in the line. The Brightside crew dug down to the pipe in freezing weather, replaced the bad pipe sections, returning service the same day. Great bunch of guys to work with.”

Sewer Camera Inspection Questions

Most sewer camera inspections are FREE when you have an active backup. We do not charge for most camera inspections because we would rather earn your business on any needed repair than charge a fee just to look.

We start all clogged sewer calls with a camera inspection. We come out with our camera, push through the clog in most cases, and if the line opens and we can see the problem, there is no charge for the camera work, for clearing the stoppage with the camera, or for marking the problem location above ground.

When the camera inspection is for a home sale or purchase, or when we have to create access such as removing a toilet, opening a buried or stuck cleanout plug, or going into a crawl space, the visit starts at $350. That price includes the camera inspection and location marking at no extra charge.

If we need to use other methods to unclog the sewer, those prices start at $199

The most common causes in Kansas City are tree roots getting into older joints, aging clay or Orangeburg pipe, and ground movement that shifts or cracks the line. A sewer camera inspection shows which of these is causing the problem in your line and how far the damage goes.

A sewer camera inspection usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes. We come to your home, run the camera through your sewer line, and review the video with you on the spot. Some visits take longer if we need to confirm utility locations with the city or work around interference with our locating equipment so we can mark the line accurately.

Yes, we offer trenchless sewer repair and we start by finding the best option for your specific sewer line, not forcing a one‑size‑fits‑all fix. When people say “trenchless,” they usually mean one of two things: an epoxy liner (no digging) or pipe bursting (no long trench, but small excavations at each end of the line).

Epoxy liners are truly “no‑dig,” but they are only the right solution in a small number of situations where the pipe and fittings meet strict conditions. Pipe bursting is the trenchless method we use most often, because it lets us replace the old pipe with a brand‑new line while avoiding a full trench through your yard. At your inspection, we’ll explain both options, show you what we see on camera, and recommend the approach that best solves your problem for the long term.

A sewer smell in your house usually means sewer gas is escaping somewhere it shouldn’t, often from a dried‑out floor drain trap, a leaking wax ring under a toilet, or a crack or loose connection in the drain or sewer line. Sometimes the source is inside the house plumbing; other times it’s in the main sewer line under or just outside the home, which we can check with a camera inspection and smoke or pressure testing if needed.

If you notice a sewer odor, especially after rain or when fixtures are draining, it’s important to track it down quickly for both comfort and safety. We can help you identify whether the problem is a simple plumbing fix or a bigger sewer line issue and then walk you through your repair options.

We serve the entire Kansas City metro — Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood, Lee’s Summit, Kansas City MO and KS, and surrounding areas.
